Honestly, fuck the Sandman. Austin will always be #2 on my list of favorites. He's from Texas and I'm from Texas, so that gives him an edge. But Austin is easily a better wrestler than him. He's had great matches with Bret, Trips, and Rocky. The Sandman has never impressed me in the ring.
In the ring, no brainer
In buyrates and all that crap, no brainer
But Austin stole his gimmick from Sandman, point blank. Sandman was one of the main revoulutionary wrestlers in ECW and had he not been there the WWF may never have gone in the direction it went in and seen off WCW and Evil Eric. Sandman was always an inspiration to me. He really embodied the fact that you don't have to be a big bodybuilder to be succesful and it showed in truth, if you work with what you have you can become as big and as over as you want.
Mic skills Austin wins, but he was gifted like that, Sandy wasn't.
Both have done a hell of a lot for the business, but I for one am not a huge Austin fan. I've never been a fan of people who get huge pushes and stay on top for ages and ages. Notice most of my favorite wrestlers have only been the top champion for a couple of months (Eddie, Benoit, Jericho, RVD etc,..)
I don't have a conclusion as such, but I'll just say. No Sandman=No Stone Cold charachter.
Sandman. Without Sandman, you wouldn't have Stone Cold. As far as in ring ability, neither were ever all that great. Although Sandman's skills are very underrated. He was quite agile as well as athletic for someone his size. I just give the to Sandman for impact on wrestling alone, as Ben mentioned.

to say that neither Austin or Sandman were ever that good in the ring is a slap in the face to Austin. the guy could wrestler. in the ring he was better than guys like Rock, Taker, and others.

the sandman was involved in a few revolutionary story lines that really gave the wwe the idea of attitude
again with out sandman theres no stone cold
sandman has more love for the buisness than stone cold and could probably outdrink the rattle snake and then kick his ass in a fist fight.
the only thing going for austin is the billing power and name value wich is owed again to sandman in a way.austin did have a better psycology in the rign but sandman wasnt to bad either and he impressed me more.
im gunna give this one to sandman
ohh and austins ego is ridiculous
ego means alot to me
sandmans ego cant devour the solar system.
Eh, consider it a bitch slap then. He was definetly better than the Rock, Undertaker, Kane, etc., but thats not really saying all that much. He put on a few really good matches, but nothing overly special. Nothing stands out all that much from what I've seen of WCW, his ECW matches weren't all that great either, and the only memorable match he had was his match against Bret at WM13. Other than that, I really don't see anything too special in Austin.

Sandman has NO wrestling ability whatsoever.
evideance of people underestamatign sandmans ability
no ability whatsoever apparently allows him to do thigns like this
stall a brain buster for 17 seconds
do top rope hurricanranas
balance on 1" railing while hammered
do sentons through tables or onto the mat
sell a toss itno the corner by flipping (like hbk/mysterio)
clearly he has some ability
IMO sandman is a revolutionary figure inw restling for basically being the flint of the spark that started the attitude era

By far Stone Cold
As much as I like the Sandman to me doing a couple of moves and sells doesn't make him a good wrestler. He may have "some" wrestling ability but Austin is far more better.
Yep, the finger, a kick, then a stunner. Now thats a match. Austin's ability is overrated. He's no where near as good as he's made out to be.

Overrated? Yeah that's why Austin has a 5 star match.

it doestn take as much ability to make a 5 star match as it does ring psycology. wich as i already said austin is above sandman when it comes to that.
but it depends who your talkign to because sandman has had some top notch matches in my book.
when you wiegh everything out sandman is still ontop

if it doesn't take much ability then why can't some of the best have any?

because if some guy has amazing ability and can move like nobody else and do whatever he wants in th ring but, he has bad ring psycology a five star match isnt going to come from them.
also five star matches dont happen everyday. its a rare thing that happens when both guys togetehr are able to keep a crowd on its feet while wrestleing the match of your life. it depends on so many factors. its liek haveing the planets aligned.

Sandman was the original, but i was never really interested in him that much. I've always been a Stone Cold mark, especially 1998 era of Austin.

it's rare because it takes wrestling talent

I'd say stonecold
Stone got his gimmick from sandman, but stone cold is a better wrestler than him. Sandman can do some cool things for his size, but some things isntbetter than having wrestling ability

This has probably already been said but Sandman is the original drunken badass and as HSM once said.......Steve Austin's gimmick is a mix of Sandman and Taz.
Oh yea.....I'm back.
