Women Of Wrestling vs Diva Search girls.

Due to the heated argument between me and Ashley's#1fan in the women's division, i decided to post this article i wrote a couple of months back on my thoughts on women in wrestling.

It may need updating so bear with me LOL.

Throughout the past six years, and even before that, we've seen a boom in the Women's division of professional wrestling. Some work as valets, some as wrestlers and most often both. These women have all been beautiful. Some of them a little more 'made up' then regular women like myself. They're there for a reason to give the guys something to look at, and offer up entertainment to the female fans so they have someone to look up to. Nowadays that can't be said about alot of the women on the current roster.

You have two different types of women, or Diva's as the World Wrestling Entertainment refers to them as. On one side, you've got the beautiful woman, but you get the take-no-shit attitude, ass kicker who only shows just enough to keep the people guessing. She's still sexy, but shows it in a classier way. Then on the other side you have the beautiful, but always 'hooker' dressed, portrayer of sex with whore-like actions, and have the wrestling ability of a spoon.

Lately, we as fans have been witnessing a very slow death in women's wrestling, while the invasion of the diva search girls are coming in. We are seeing the slow dissipating departure of the women with actual brains and strength in the business. Away with the female wrestler and hello to the skanky air-heads, that would rather take their clothes off for Playboy, then to take time out to learn some basic wrestling techniques. They care more about their appearance and looks then their actually ability to learn to wrestle. (Eg. Candice, when Victoria broke her nose, she was out for a month and went and got plastic surgery on it. Then you had Trish, who broke her nose and was back the next week, competing in matches wearing a mask and not giving a damn about what she looked like.)

Over the decades, we have witnessed some amazing talent in women's wrestling; Fabulous Moolah, Alundra Blayze/Medusa, Ivory, Jacqueline, Molly Holly, Chyna, Francine, Lita and Trish Stratus. The only women who are left on our roster who can actually wrestle is the grand total of six; Mickie James, Victoria, Trinity, Shelly Martinez 'Ariel' and Jillian Hall, and recently signed Nattie Neidhart (who hopefully will be an active female wrestler and not play a role like Jillian.)
Then we have 2 women, Torrie Wilson and Melina Perez, who aren't qualified wrestlers, but can put on a decent match when given the opportunity to.
But there are at least 10 others who have zero in-ring talent and can not work in the ring at all, and that total is not including all of the 2006 Diva Search rejects who have been re-hired; Kelly Kelly, Maria, Ashley, Layla El, Candice Michelle, Maryse, Queen Sharmell, Michelle McCool and Krystal, and soon to be the 20+ bikini models that the WWE have recently hired.

Not only can these girls can not wrestle, but they are stuck doing these horrible gimmick matches when they do have to perform in the ring. Bra & panties, paddle-on-a-pole, lingerie pillow fights, and endless wet t-shirt, bikini and lingerie contests. And the most recent, Extreme Strip Poker. The Extreme Strip Poker edition of ECW, did a crappy rating of 1.7. Vince McMahon says sex sells, well doesn't that rating say otherwise?

I know girls who are upset with the incoming of all the sluts and door knobs. None of us are happy. And if the likes of these rip-off, skanky or dumb "Divas" actually ever win the women's championship (Ashley is rumored too at WM23), then it's officially over. That's killing the legacy of Moolah, Wendy Richter, Sensational Sherri, Lita, Ivory, and Trish. It completely tarnishes that Championship belt.

I also like to refer the diva search skanks as the rip-off girls: Girls who can't get their own look, gimmick or character. Candice Michelle has re-vamped Sable's character, using the sex angle to sell her character like before. Michelle McCool probably ripping off the most obvious, Stacy Keibler's Miss Hancock character, and stealing Keibler's entrance too. Layla El has resumed the Christy Hemme roll as the fugley, useless as a blunt pencil. Krystal trying to be like Teri Runnels and do back stage interview in these outfits that are similar in style. Then there's the Lita rip-off. Ashley. She stole Lita's punk look, attitude and even the ex-boyfriend.

If the WWE has to recycle gimmicks and characters because these women can not come up with their own. If they aren't smart or creative enough to figure their own character out, then they shouldn't be here in the WWE. Simple as that.

How degrading is it for us women who watch wrestling (some like myself, wanting to be the WWE one day) to see these women slowly kill off the division? These women could care less about the company and fans and to only their pay checks. I have read many interviews on these girls and none state they were ever interested in wrestling or taking apart a career in it. Kelly Kelly is a good example, rumor is, Vince found topless photos of her over the internet, called up her manager and now she's an official ECW star. Once her Playboy offers and acting roles come along, she'll be out of the WWE quicker then Ashley getting another injury. If this is how Vince hires his talents these days, then count me out!

What on earth has the Diva Search got to do with wrestling? The segments are beyond pathetic, hotdog eating, musical chairs and diva boot camp? (Well I guess there's a little athleticism to it, but mainly for the guys to watch the girl’s tits bounce up and down.) The competition was made out for everyday female wrestling fans to try out at the chance of becoming a WWE diva. News flash: None of these girls are ordinary girls; they've all had their taste with fame and having done either modeling or Playboy. There's no proper ending to the competition as well, as most of the girls are re-hired after the competition for some small role or another. Okay, so I didn't mind the first competition as having one extra non wrestling diva in the company didn't bother me, but there is no point to it now.

Another sad part is these women were paid $250,000 for winning. Did they actually do anything to deserve that much money in all honesty?...No. Ashley Massaro (who is properly the worst out of all of them) who claimed that amount of money, yet her so called 'boys' Paul London and Brian Kendrick who probably get paid less then half of that ($250,000) a year, is a disgrace, since they risk injury in every match they compete in every week. When all Ashley really risk's is a wardrobe malfunction.

If Maria, Candice, Ashley etc, truly want to be a wrestler, then they need to leave WWE television, get real training (training that Lita, Trish etc got) and then come back once they know how to put on a decent match.

I've said some pretty harsh words, some down right cruel even, but the truth hurts. We would rather see the brainy, beautiful and well-trained women in wrestling then the bimbos that we have been getting lately.

The only thing I can think of here is that it was done on ECW. Everyone knows that ECW sucks and that they have nothing going for them. Also, most people know that they aren't going to show chicks naked on regular cable TV. Thats what probably hurt them the most

A reason why the Women's divison is also consider bad is because they can only do so much. I would say that more than half the audiences at shows want their fair share of blood and big spots. When have we ever seen a big spot in a Women's match. No one has ever seen Trish Startus fly off a 20ft ladder and slam Victoria through a table. People know that they can't get much from a women's match except maybe the hope that a titty flys out and no one censors it (ala Candice Michelle's Towel strip 2 weeks ago on RAW).

Am I saying that Trish or the other women aren't tough enough to do some major pop like that? No. But does Vince allow them to do so? No. He needs the pretty faces and such. I'm actually surprised that Ashley didn't win the Women's title before her Playboy came out so that it would have the Women's Champion in it.

I don't V, but the Women's Division is the one division in the WWE that is on the downfall but can't be brought back up or retooled. We have all grown accustomed to it.

Anyway I'm a wrestling fan i enjoy wrestling. i respect women who have the love in there heart to go out learn wrestling and slowly go up the ladder to the WWE. Women who actually broke a sweat to get there contract. I do not respect women who just saw WWE as an opportunity to get there name out there and don't even know basic wrestling skills. After 2 years there showing the smallest sign of improvement but all there "moves" are made look good by a GOOD wrestler and they should have really learnt these really basic rules 2 years ago. I adore Lita, she is my idol, my role model, my hero etc, etc, now you go on any of these threads and there’ll be a post with some kind of insult to her. I don't hate on them and annoy the people that say that, obviously i don't agree with them but by saying childish things like 'your jealous' and 'show me how much better you are' isn't going to solve or prove anything. At first it pissed me off about what they said, but I soon got over it and now I just shrug my shoulders, you need to start doing the same.

Very well put. I'd take Lita over Ashley any day. So what if everyone thinks she's a ho, she can wrestle her ass off, and that's what matters to me. Trashley doesn't deserve to be in the WWE, and quite frankly they need to release her soon. Hell, I'd rather have Rebecca here than Trashley. Kelly Kelly needs to go too, since all she does is show her boobs which she obviously thinks are double D's but needs to get it in her no clue of wrestling head that she doesn't. Exactly, and that's really sad considering the fact the womens division used to be something great. anyway last night on RAW we saw the playboy cover girls vs the talented divas. By now wouldnt you think Ashley could at least do a hurricainranna without messing it up she lets go to early and jillian has to flip herself everytime. She has the same 3 moves which she repeats all the way through the match and it gets boring. Compare it to Mickie/victoria on heat that was an entertaining match. IMO the diva search girls need to get dressed and go learn some real in ring skill whilst the ones who have good in ring skill have the air time and the matches at WM.
