who do you think is the best prowrestler ever

wrestling skills alone- Kurt Angle, the guy can wrestle and has proven it many times. He is hands down the guy with the best skills to ever work. Angle has had many great match with Lesnar, Benoit, Jericho, and HBK.
skills, charisma, mic skills- Shawn Michaels is easily the best all around guy even though there are other that could be considered(Jericho, Triple H, Austin). The guy could always put on good match regardless of who he was wrestling, and when he was able put on promos that would make the people either love him or hate him depending on whether he was a heel or face. When it came to his skills he was able to put on great matches with Taker, Trips, Angle, Jericho, and Austin.
The best all round pro wrestler ever is Chris Jericho.
He combines the mic skills, the ring skills, the abillity to play a fantastic heel or face, the fans, the "look" that WWE strives for (let's face it he doesn't look like he got dragged off the street
I will be explaining this more tommorow, It's 1 AM here and I have work tommorow :(
I always fancied a debate with Chanandler, probably one of the guys here who could "take me"

LOFL.
Ok back on topic. Chris Jericho is one of the best to ever wrestle, but the thing that puts HBK ahead of Jericho is draw power. Both guys can put asses in seats, but IMO Shawn draws more money than Jericho. And draw power is something I bring into consideradtion when deciding who the best all around was/is.

Undertaker in terms of a being a wrestler with a healthy balance of Wrestling Skills, Agility, Endurance and Mic Skills.
Best wrestler in terms of talent? Hmmmm its so close between HayaBusa, Benoit, Jericho and Shawn Michaels, all of them are good, so i cant chose.

Hm, I thought wrestling didn't include knowing how to talk on a microphone. In my opinion, it's in somewhat of a tie between Santo, Mil Mascaras, El Perro Aguayo, Great Sasuke, Ultimo Dragon, Blue Demon, Kurt Angle.... there's more, but I can't pick one.
Please note, I don't take "Mic Skills" into account, because If I can recall correctly, wrestling should be a sport.
Good point about the drawing power. But then again, how long did Jericho stay at the top? About 3 months because of a badly booked title reign. Should he have stayed there I think we'd be able to access that aspect better.

i would say the lord zoltan because he has een every where and has done everything but he is not well known enough unless ur into the indies or 80's wrestling
but as for overall i would say brian pillman i mean he could do spots if he wanted or have a great technical match and even when he went to the wwe/f and he couldnt "fly" anymore he could still cut a promo with the loose cannon gimick and just freak out on comman and it was great

Bret Hart.
He made of had a shitty attitude but he was a tremendous wrestler and athlete. His matches with Owen were some of the best and they didn't even fight for titles and they don't get half the respect they deserve. His mat work was truly amazing and he could carry any guy through any match. Iron man match at WM = Greatest match ever in WWE. He and Shawn Michaels ruled and Bret definitely put Michaels way over. Also, he was the best Anti-American, I hate America heel EVER. You know why? Because he was that damn good in the ring and the people knew it. Here's a canadian wrestler that can come in here and beat American's asses. The heat that he generated going into fighting the Undertaker at Summerslam 97 was amazing. People would literally try to kill this guy if they saw him in the street.
This of course is all before he turned into a jackass. But I still respect him more than Kurt Angle now.

I wanna add Psicosis to my list, especuially now that's he's back in AAA, where he belongs.:tu
Eh, this is hard, for me, it's a three way tie between HBK, Bryan Danielson, and Punk.
As pointed out by Chanandler pointed out, HBK can definetly mix wrestling with entertainment, in my opinion better than most. He has the wrestling ability, he can be a great heel, or a great face, he can be great on the mic, he has always been a huge draw, and is one of the all around best in the wrestling business. Yep Ben, I'll say it, Michaels > Jericho.
Bryan Danielson may not have the best mic skills, but his mic skills are very underrated, see his promo at Better Than Our Best. He was always a great heel and was phenominal at playing off the crowd, as well as being a pretty good face as well. He is clearly worthy of being called one of the best as far as in ring ability goes. He is innovative in the ring, and has put on some of the best matches I've seen in a while.
Punk, well, he clearly has the talent, a 5 star match to his name, and a great deal of popularity to go along with it. Not very many people can get the kind of reaction he's been getting in the WWE considering he didn't come straight from a "Mainstream" wrestling promotion, for example Jericho's debut, when he jumped ship from WCW. He is able to to play a tremendous heel, as shown in his fued with Raven in ROH, and has cut countless, phenominal promos. Punk is also clearly able to draw as a face, as he did for a while in ROH before turning heel again after his title reign, and as he's showing now in the WWE. And really, not many WWE wrestlers can say they had a T-Shirt after being in the WWE for a few months. =P

I love Punk, but he was pretty much at the right place at the right time. One of the main reasons that Punk is over in the WWE is because he debuted in front of crowd that was filled with marks. He debuted at the Hammerstein where a bunch of people knew who he was. They knew who he was and cheered for him. Then the marks saw that he was getting cheered so they folled, and that's why Punk is very popular in the WWE. He deserves everything he's getting because he's a great all around guy, but alot of the great reactions that he's getting in the WWE is because he got lucky as to when and where he debuted.
You've got to think though that something else clicked with the fans, other than the Ballroom. Sure, a good portion of his popularity may have come from the ECW/ROH/Indy fans in attendence that night, but many WWE fans who were previously unaware of Punks earlier work find Punk to be a breathe of fresh air in the WWE. He has a different and unique style to him that makes him different and appealing to fans. He's used moves like the Anaconda Vice and KENTA's Go 2 Sleep which are fairly new to WWE fans, so I'm sure part of his popularity is due to the different style he brings to the WWE. The Ballroom may have given him a boost, but he's carried himself the rest of the way.

He only recently began using KENTA's move. Also the WWE helped put him over by shooting promos hyping his debut weeks before he debuted at the Hammerstein. If the marks hadn't of been cheering Punk on then he would've faded by now, but at the same time many of the marks probably did cheer him on because he was new and different. A bunch of the little kids probably cheer him because of his straight-edge style, and a lot of parents would love their kids to have a hero that's like that.
The promos are another thing that I'm sure helped him along, as you said, I'm sure the straight edge lifestyle has caught on with quite a few younger kids. And theres not a doubt in my mind that he wouldn't be getting the same reaction he's getting now if it hadn't been for the ballroom, but between his mic skills, and his wrestling ability, he's someone that like Jericho, can in time naturally be over just about anywhere.

if you wannatalk about generating heat you ahev to talk about terry funk. the man was stabbed twice by fans. once in the neck. he also had police confiscate guns from fans on several ocasions because they were after him. he also got into countless fights with fans in puertoe rico. funk was sick on amic. he could get heat in an ice box.
pro wrestling is the whole package so you also gotta look at ability. so my choice of best pro wrestler ever is the complete package, chris jericho.
hes so versatile. one of the bets on the mic, one of the best in the ring, the best overall. theres really nothing he can pull a crowd anyway he wants. he doesnt have the largest draw but draw dotn mean shit. huge draws are cena, hogan, batista, warrior, etc. the benefiet of not beign so ridiculously over is that it helps him be able to switch from heel to face witht he ease he does it. and he can make you unsure of were hes goin with it wich is the best part of turns.

for every cena, warrior, batista, hogan you have austin, triple h, shawn michaels, rock....draw power does mean something

to me draw power has not much to do with it beause its usually controlled by someone above the wrestler, the promoters.
id also like to say that if eddie guerrero had not died hed have a shot at being best pro wrestler. he had ben nvolved with that terrible story with reys son but feel he was back on his way to the top and every one said thta he had another tittle run instore for him. its a shame he died so young. he could of gone so mch further.

this is by far the greatest thread starter i have seen, what a tough tough question...i just read all the answers some i agree some i believe don't even belong on the top 10...
I think you need to do a top 10 list to be more detailed and fair to all the wrestlers...
brett hart has all the qualities---ability, drawing power, mic skills, finesse, atheletic ablity, and a believeable star in the sport...
next and real close to him would have to be Jericho and HBK...those two have all the same qualities listed above with Hart, but just comes a little tad bit short ONLY A TAD THOUGH
THE NEXT COUPLE TO FOLLOW ARE missing a couple of traits...Taker, because he does lack consisent working ablitiy and really doesn't have great mic skills which he can get away with when he is in Taker mode, but when he got the cycle role he should have been more of a talker...then Austin/Triple H...these two are great great sellers, but where does their athletic ablity fall into...H is no way near a high flyer technichian in the ring also with Austin you just get a mat wrestler with really no aerial moves, so these two guys fall short in the ring with athleticism, but give them ten mins in a ring to sell a storyline and I am not moving from my tv because those two are a plus and including one mo guy because of the same traits h and austin have and that would be Hogan. Hogan I don't feel can even be mention in the same sentrence as wrestling, but what he did for the sport he needs a mention...
1. brett hart
2. hbk and Jericho and Ric flair and Dusty Rhodes
3. Austin/Taker/Hogan/piper
I am sure some will disagree, but i am gonna continue with this and next week post a top fifty list to see where everbody else disagrees and or agrees---see ya next week

hogan and taker needs to be in the same level and i am not and repeat not a hogan fan but when you look at a top wrestler you need to add all the qualties in...drawing power/atheletic ablity/ showmanship/mic skills/acting ablity/believeablity/influences in the sport/what they did to move their sport...all that adds to hogan being there...in the eighties hogan made wrestling a mainstream event and really to this day his character can make wrestling more mainstream then an undertaker character like it or not...if taker dropped that character and kept with the american badass theme then maybe you can argue he could be more mainstream but when you put all that theater behind him it works for basic wrestling fans but not for a mainstream event and you need to take that all in to account....and for man of 100 holds or whatever...ric flair and hbk together on the list is definately acceptable for the reasons being that overall career flair was a great headliner and wrestler in all his time, he may not be shining now and it even may be time for him to go, but flair could headline a card as well as hbk and his wrestling ablity and showmanship would be unparralled as it is compared to hbk...flair could and does work a story like noone else and his believeablity is untouchable by any wrestler sorry flair needs to be up there woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
